The First International Conference on Existential Psychology 

An intellectual dialogue between East and West: How to face suffering and create value of life

Nanjing, China (2010) 

Why do I exist? What is the meaning of life? How do we face suffering in life, and create meaning in life? The first international conference on existential psychology will be held on April 2nd, 2010, Nanjing, China. More than 40 experts of existential psychology from over 10 countries will assemble in Nanjing to engage in the mutual exploration and dialogues on the basic themes of existential psychology, the essence of existential psychotherapy, the latest research findings and the examination of the role of culture from an existential perspective. 

Main Presenters:

   From the West

Kirk Schneider: a collaborator and successor to Rollo May, the Father of American existential psychology. Kirk is the leading spokesman of comtemporary existential-humanistic psychology of America.

Erik Craig: Past president of the Society for Humanistic Psychology of the American Psychological Association as well as of the International Association for the Study of Dreams. Eric has been teaching and practicing humanistic and existential psychotherapy for over 40 years.  

Ilene Serlin: Past president of the Society for Humanistic Psychology of the American Psychological Association, ADTR. Ilene is a licensed clinical psychologist and registered dance therapist in practice. Currently she is the president of the San Francisco Psychological Association.

Ed Mendelowitz: A leading American  figure on comtemporary existential  psychology and the arts. 

Louis Hoffman: A leading figure on comtermporary existential psychology in the United States and author and contributor to the book: Existential Psychology East-West.

 Papers Submission

Conference papers will be divided into two categories--oral reports and post reports, which will provide opportunities for the participants from different countries and academic areas to show their research and to communicate with each other.

        The papers should be submitted in bilingual abstracts within 1,000 words. Please submit your abstract online via email: huiwu@ep-china.org  Or by mail to the following address:
